Dr. Joycia Thorat is a visionary Development Professional and Social Scientist with over 25 years of grassroots experience across the global development sector. Passionately engaged in building a just and peaceful world, she has collaborated with diverse stakeholders worldwide to champion social justice, climate action, and equitable development. Throughout her distinguished career—including a 23-year tenure at the Church’s Auxiliary for Social Action (CASA) India as a Gender Policy and Thematic Advisor—Dr. Thorat has been a driving force in policy analysis, humanitarian response, and implementing sustainable development models
Established a Gender Desk at CASA that successfully mainstreamed gender initiatives across Indian states, impacting over 6,000 villages. She also managed critical COVID-19 response efforts across 15 project partners and established climate-resilient agricultural projects to address farmer distress in Maharashtra
Actively represented civil society at major international forums, including multiple UNFCCC COPs, UNCSW Sessions, and World Council of Churches Assemblies, to lobby for climate and gender justice.
Serves in vital advisory roles, including International Grants Consultant and CEO of Noble rank Pvt. Ltd. She holds prominent board and committee positions, such as Chairperson of the Program Committee for YWCA of India, and actively publishes books and research on sustainable development and female leadership.
